Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed gratitude to the United States for restoring the Starlink and Starshield satellite internet services, which are crucial for Ukraine’s military logistics and defense against Russian drone attacks. In a recent video address, Zelensky also emphasized the urgency of receiving air defense missiles, particularly ammunition for Patriot systems, to safeguard Ukrainian cities and infrastructure from ongoing Russian ballistic missile threats.
Zelensky highlighted that despite prior political commitments from the United States and European partners, Ukraine is still waiting for promised military shipments. He underscored the need for expedited delivery of these defense systems to bolster Ukraine’s ability to protect itself amid the ongoing conflict.
The Ukrainian president acknowledged the role of US lawmakers, officials, media representatives, and the administration in addressing the satellite internet issue, which has now been restored to its previous operating speeds. This development is seen as vital for maintaining effective communication and coordination on the frontlines.
Additionally, Zelensky expressed hope for a humanitarian operation in Oleshky, a town under Russian control in Ukraine’s Kherson region. The proposed operation, mediated by the US, aims to establish a local ceasefire to allow the delivery of food and medical supplies and provide civilians with an opportunity to evacuate the conflict zone. However, the situation remains dire due to mined roads in the area.
Zelensky mentioned that a safe corridor could be created through mine-clearing efforts and reiterated Ukraine’s readiness to cooperate. He expressed optimism that US mediation would facilitate the success of this humanitarian mission, which is essential for alleviating the suffering of civilians trapped in the conflict.
