Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden has reiterated his nation’s commitment to supporting Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression, highlighting the importance of continued European Union assistance. Following an EU summit, Frieden warned that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ambitions may extend beyond Ukraine, emphasizing that military and financial aid are necessary to protect Ukraine’s sovereignty and curb potential Russian expansion.
Frieden’s remarks come as EU leaders consider stricter restrictions on tourist visas for Russian citizens, aiming to limit their numbers without resorting to a complete ban. Luxembourg plans to align its approach with Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel, according to Frieden.
The summit also addressed the EU’s migration policy, although leaders did not reach a consensus. Frieden called for a balanced approach that addresses irregular migration while acknowledging the economic contributions of legal migration. He underscored Luxembourg’s dependence on foreign workers to meet its labor market needs, suggesting that a comprehensive European policy is crucial.
