Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has inaugurated the Carpathian 8 Summit in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, marking the beginning of a new regional forum aimed at enhancing cooperation among eight European countries. The summit, running from September 18 to 20, gathers leaders to focus on crucial areas such as security, energy, and economic collaboration.
The summit features participation from key nations including Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Czechia, Hungary, Slovakia, and Austria. Notable attendees include Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Romanian President Nicusor Dan, and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. Slovakia is represented by a senior foreign ministry official, emphasizing the collective effort to discuss regional development and cooperation.
With a strong economic focus, the summit has attracted approximately 500 business representatives. President Zelensky announced that investment agreements and projects exceeding €1 billion are in preparation, with nearly 100 projects presented by participating countries. Discussions are centered on enhancing transport and energy infrastructure, which are seen as vital for improving regional mobility and expanding trade and investment links.
Poland has reaffirmed its support for Ukraine during the discussions, underscoring the importance of regional collaboration. The summit serves as a platform to strengthen ties and coordinate efforts towards Ukraine’s integration into the European framework. Additionally, it provides an opportunity for dialogue among countries holding varying positions on military support for Kyiv.
