India is seeking to play a more active role in resolving the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, according to External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. Highlighting New Delhi’s diplomatic efforts, Jaishankar stated that India is engaging directly with both Moscow and Kyiv to promote dialogue as the path to peace.
Jaishankar emphasized India’s belief that the conflict can be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy, noting that New Delhi has moved beyond merely advocating for negotiations. India is now actively holding discussions with both Russia and Ukraine to explore potential solutions.
In addition to facilitating dialogue, India is looking into ways to support initiatives related to maritime safety in the Black Sea, as well as the export of grain and energy. These efforts aim to prevent further attacks and stabilize critical supply chains affected by the conflict.
The Indian government is engaging with Ukraine through direct discussions led by Jaishankar, while maintaining strong ties with Russia. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has maintained a close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with their most recent meeting taking place in New Delhi in September.
These diplomatic moves occur as international efforts to restart negotiations between Russia and Ukraine continue. Kyiv is also considering the possibility of entering another round of talks to reach a resolution.
