British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s unwavering support for Ukraine in a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Downing Street. Despite growing international uncertainty over the war, Burnham assured Zelensky that Britain’s commitment would remain steadfast.
During the discussions, Burnham confirmed that the UK would expedite the delivery of air defense missiles to Ukraine to bolster its defense against intensified Russian attacks. This support package includes lightweight multi-role missiles that have been effective against Russian jet-powered drones. Zelensky expressed his gratitude, recognizing the British people as among Ukraine’s strongest allies.
The meeting between Burnham and Zelensky occurred against the backdrop of strained relations between Ukraine and the United States. Recent shifts in Washington’s approach to Russia have raised concerns over intelligence sharing, prompting Burnham to emphasize that Britain would continue to pressure Moscow while seeking additional ways to aid Kyiv.
Burnham also reiterated his willingness to pursue diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict. However, he stressed that ongoing Russian attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure remain a significant concern, underscoring the need for continued international support for Ukraine.
