Russia has escalated its offensive against Ukraine’s railway infrastructure, resulting in the deaths of six railway workers after a ballistic missile hit a locomotive depot. This incident is part of a broader assault on Kyiv and surrounding areas, with the overall death toll reaching at least 12 people, including children, and numerous others injured. These strikes highlight the increasing intensity of Russia’s campaign aimed at crippling Ukraine’s railway system, which is vital for transporting people, supplies, and military equipment.
The Ukrainian railway network, spanning about 24,000 kilometers, is crucial for maintaining the country’s economy and logistical operations during the conflict. Since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, 58 railway employees have lost their lives, and over 300 have been injured. The situation is exacerbated by a broader increase in Russian drone assaults, with over 1,500 drones launched in recent attacks, including advanced jet-powered models that are harder to intercept.
