Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced a $60 million aid package for Ukraine, emphasizing military support and humanitarian aid, during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York. This latest commitment brings Australia’s total assistance to Ukraine, following Russia’s 2022 invasion, to approximately $1.9 billion.
The newly announced support comprises $45 million allocated to Australian Defence Force equipment, $10 million directed to Ukraine’s energy support fund, and $5 million designated for humanitarian efforts. Albanese underscored that Australia’s continued backing for Ukraine is a stand for international law, noting the conflict’s broader global implications.
Alongside the financial aid, the two nations have agreed on a 10-year bilateral security agreement. This deal promises increased military training and explores potential collaboration on developing training facilities and jointly producing air-defense systems, missiles, and drones.
